'Dad is -- ' -- a poem by Fauna Lewis/fml
Dad is --
coffee every morning
from a heavy Stanley mug
cigarette smoke
on flannel shirts
work boots caked with mud
Dad is --
"Hey, bring me a beer!"
or a goofy joke he said
"Go change the channel."
a comforting weight on the bed.
ice cream in the summer
A pool,
and I am lead
the bruises on my skin
the monsters in my head
Dad is --
"Get the fuck back here!"
and thuds up the stairs
Dad is --
"I'll give you something to cry about!"
before he belts our rears
Dad is --
soap on our sleds
so we go extra fast!
and hot cocoa, back inside,
he made special, just for us
